The project involves building a seawater desalination plant in Sfax, Tunisia, with an initial capacity of 100,000 m³/day (expandable to 200,000 m³/day). Led by SONEDE and entrusted to a consortium including ORASCOM, METITO, and COBRA, this major project aims to secure the region’s drinking water supply by tapping into a new non-conventional water source. The works include the seawater intake, the desalination plant, brine discharge, storage and pumping of treated water, as well as supporting infrastructure and utilities. This project is crucial to addressing the water challenges in the Sfax region.
